3D Mammography

The latest technology AND a more comfortable experience

Not all mammograms are the same! The high-resolution imaging technology of our Siemens MAMMOMAT Revelation 3D system allows radiologists to examine breast tissue in exceptional detail, helping support the early and accurate detection of abnormalities. It also features personalized soft compression technology that prevents unnecessary pain by adjusting to the unique anatomy of each woman’s breast.

In the United States, the average woman has about a 1 in 8 lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. Notably, nearly 70% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. Compared with traditional 2D mammograms, studies show that 3D mammography can increase cancer detection rates by up to 40%, while also reducing false positives by 15%–40% and lowering the number of patients who are called back for additional imaging.

How does a 3D mammogram work?

3D mammography—also called digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT)—is an advanced technology used in breast cancer screening. Like traditional mammography, it uses low-dose X-rays to create images of breast tissue. However, unlike standard 2D mammograms, 3D mammography captures multiple images of the breast from different angles. These images are then reconstructed into a three-dimensional view, allowing radiologists to examine thin “slices” of the breast in greater detail. This enhanced imaging helps detect smaller cancers that might otherwise be hidden by overlapping breast tissue in conventional mammograms.

What can I expect during my mammogram?

Because our 3D mammography system was designed with patient comfort in mind, you can expect a comfortable and efficient screening experience. Our technologist will guide you through the process and position one breast at a time on the imaging platform. The breast is gently compressed for a few seconds to spread the tissue and obtain clear, detailed images while using the lowest radiation dose necessary. The system’s ergonomic design and soft compression features help improve comfort during the exam. Each image takes only a few seconds to capture, and most appointments are completed within about 15–20 minutes.

After your mammogram, you can return to your normal activities. Your test results are typically available to both you and your doctor within 24-48 hours of your test through our patient portal.
